History of the USS Hopewell Logo and Original Plaque
The Ship’s logo made from metal and put on a wood backing was created by a 3rd class we called Melfiono, can’t remember his correct name. This is the one I believe is going to be auctioned off at the reunion. It was created around 1959. They gave the job to him because of his artistic ability. Captain Silvani sent him off to have it cast. Overseas our second cruise over, some place in Japan if I remember correctly. He had 3 made, and worked with all of them to fine tune them, presented to Captain Silvani the best one, he kept one and gave me the other one, it is hanging on my wall now. Thought it might be of interest to you Ed.
